Happy New Year!

John, Toby and all the staff at coombes:everitt architects wish all of our friends, colleagues and clients a very Happy New Year. After 2012 bringing a year full of interesting and exciting projects, we look forward to catching up with you all and hopefully making 2013 another good year for us all.

National Star College Appointment

coombes:everitt architects have been appointed to work with the National Star College to develop a new supported living residential scheme. In addition to providing specialist a mix of residential accommodation the low impact scheme will provide a community building for the use of local residents.

Work Progresses Despite Weather

Despite the bad weather, work is progressing a on a number of projects including a luxury contemporary dwelling on the Cotswold escarpment overlooking Cheltenham. The property has been designed to relate to the topography of the site and to reflect the natural materials found around the site. The developer is hoping to complete this project by spring of this year.

Planning Approval for Royal British Legion

The former Royal British Legion building in Cheltenham is now on the market with Chesterton Humbert Estate Agents following receipt of planning in late 2012 to provide 6 new dwellings. The scheme includes the conversion of the original building into a 3 bedroom house and 2 apartments and a new build block housing 3no. 2 bedroom apartments. For further details give us a call.

Rural Diversification to Provide New Wedding Venue

Working with McLoughlin Planning, planning has now been submitted for a high-quality wedding venue in the heart of the Cotswolds.  The scheme is based around a series of historic Cotswold Barns and will ensure the long term viability of the existing farm as well providing much needed employment opportunities.

Office Conversion Nearing Completion

The first stage of the conversion at 21 The Promenade is now complete with the external decorations and roof works complete to allow the scaffolding to come down prior to Christmas 2012. The scheme to convert former office space into 7 apartments is well under way with a completion due for the end of February 2013.  Bathroom pods and sleeping decks have been used in the larger rooms to retain the historical character of the original building rather than introducing partitions which will subdivide the space.

Major Extension of Cotswolds Farm House

We are pleased to have obtained planning permission for the extension and refurbishment of a large Cotswold farmhouse in the outskirts of the Cheltenham. The scheme includes 2 large extensions and opening up the ground floor to provide a contemporary kitchen, living and day room. It will also include the reconstruction of former stables to provide a garage and utility rooms with a glazed link to the main house. An existing hay barn will also then be converted to a new ancillary cottage within the stable yard.

Cheltenham Civic Awards

We are pleased to be supporting Cheltenham Civic Society in their annual awards programme by being a member of the judging panel for 2013.  The awards support good architecture in the form of renovations, new build and public realm works with a formal presntation and discussion each year.  for more information contact Cheltenham Civic Society. http://www.cheltenhamcivicsociety.org.uk/

Changes to Building Regulations 2013

The government will be introducing a further set of changes to the Building Regulations in 2013 with changes to AD Parts A, C, D, E, K, L, M and N, as well as examining the effectiveness of Part P (Electrical safety).  The changes to Part L look the most onerous with a further 25% reduction in emission levels for dwellings as well as changes to ensure ‘as-built’ performance more closely matches the design performance.  These are coming into force through 2013 and for more information -please drop us a line.

Conversion of Redundant Office Space

Following on from our success in Cheltenham of converting redundant office accommodation in to new homes, November saw the planning approval to convert the former registry office on Spa Road in Gloucester into 9 apartments with a further 2 new mews properties being constructed to the rear of the property. The client has commenced the strip out works and will be developing the scheme over the next 10 months.

Charity Donation

Christmas has come and gone and once again this year we donated to our chosen charity. Shelter is a charity that works to alleviate the distress caused by homelessness and bad housing. They do this by giving advice, information and advocacy to people in housing need, and by campaigning for lasting political change to end the housing crisis for good. More information can be found at www.shelter.org.uk.

Green Deal

January has seen the introduction of the Green Deal, a government initiative scheme that lets you pay for some or all of the improvements over time through your energy bill. Although detail of suppliers and assessors are still to be fully defined the principal is simple with money being loaned against the property and paid back from savings in energy bills.  Repayment are then capped to be no more than what a typical household should save in energy costs. Have a look on https://www.gov.uk/green-deal-energy-saving-measures or give us a call to discuss.
